Help select number 5,000

Thanks to everyone who participated. The winner will be announced later today...Sunday May 6th

The site recently passed a milestone as the database now contains more than 5,000 jerseys to use in conjuncture with the widgets offered here. I did however leave the ID number 5000 open and am looking for ideas for a suitable player to give the honor to.

I'm open to all suggestions, any player, any team and any sport. The only criteria being that they hold some signicance and that the jersey type isn't already in the database. Even the San Diego Chicken and Philly Phanatic* are elgible.

As an incentive, if your suggestion is used, I'll create a jersey in your honor, for any team you want, using whatever name you want. Even your own. This jersey wil be available for use in the widgets and is completely yours to decide on.

Feel free to leave suggestions below or send them to me using the contact form located here: Contact Form. All submissions will be posted here, and the contest (if you can call it that) will run until May 5th. Feel free to submit as many names as you like.

Requests for the Database

Many people have sent in requests for the database and if they haven't appeared yet, well, I haven't forgotten about you. I have reformatted the site with the intention of being able to have more time to answer these and get more work done on adding to the database and improving the quality of the mini jerseys contained within it.

A lot of people want to know what the deal is with the lack of basketball jerseys and, fear not, they are coming. It has just taken a while to find a format for them that will work based on their size. I hope to start adding more of these in the near future,

At the moment there are a couple of priorities based on a number of different factors; the NFL rosters need to get done as I intend to put out an updated version of the NFL schedule widget before the summer. There will most likely be a CFL widget done at the same time, so look for CFL jerseys soon as well. NHL requests are something that I want to try and get done while the playoffs are going on, and after that the rest of the baseball teams.

Soccer/football jerseys are probably the most widely requested and I hope to get some time to start making more of these in the near future. The Premier League requests are on a bit of a hold because they will all be changing in the next month or so to a different font. There are some long standing requests for other teams that I'll try and work on when time permits.

Thanks for all the patience those of you who have been waiting and wondering.

To keep track of things I have provided a page with a list of all current requests. If you have made a request and don't see it on the list then feel free to submit it again. It's possible that I may have missed a couple.

Alternate Version of Cup Companion

I received a special request to modify the Cup Companion widget to show the team jerseys instead of the patterned icons (a la iPhone), and the result is to the right. Everything else about the widget is identical, except for a slightly lighter background to highlight the jerseys a bit more.

This is available for both Dashboard and Yahoo! and has a different name, so you could conceivably run both versions at the same time.

I hope this makes following the playoffs a bit easier for a very young hockey fan in Phoenix.

About the new site

Well, I've been meaning to do this for a while now, and after a few days of work it's finally done. Essentially, what I have done is remove just about everything that was old and out of date. I've tried to streamline the site to keep it focused on the important things so that I can spend more time working on them, and less time trying to keep the site organized and up to date. All of the calendars and clocks etc that use jerseys to show the date have now been moved to a single page with all of the downloads. They are located here. In total there are over 200 of them. I don't plan on updating those that exist, nor making anymore as the jersey database sort of eliminates the need for specific teams.

The jersey database is now a bit more efficiant as you can preview the images without leaving your current search. And all of the other pages have received a bit of an update, including the contact and request forms which are no longer Flash and should function more reliably. The site RSS feed is now identical to that which is used in the site widget and will include all site updates, including additons to the database etc. I've reduced the total number of widgets available, since a number of them were no longer functioning and it wasn't really wise to have them offered anymore. What's left are the main widgets that I'm going to continue to update.

It is my hope that reducing the weight of the site will allow me to get more work done on requests, jerseys for the database, and spend more time creating more new widgets.

As always if you are having any problems with the site, or have found broken links due to the transfer, please let me know via the contact page.

A huge thanks goes out to DA who worked on the great fabric swatches and the stitching patterns used for the new site.

Cup Companion widget

For the sake of the playoffs I tried to create a widget that would simplify the process of following the different series going on and where they stand, as well as give people an easy way to see the game times and results for those matchups.

When first loaded the widget will show Round 1 (Conference Quarterfinals) mousing over the particular matchups will highlight them in orange, clicking on them will give you the overview of when the games are scheduled, who's home and who's aways, and if the games have concluded the final scores.

Using the buttons at the bottom you can return to the series overview, select from the four different rounds, and refresh the widget.

This widget is available for both Dashboard and Yahoo!. Thanks to DA for doing the great image of the cup used on the widget.

Please note that some of the game times for matches are approximate as they have not been officially scheduled. As soon as they are they will be updated.

AFL Widget for Testing (Yahoo!)

This widget was made possible by FootyJumpers.com who supplied the jumper images used throughout the widget. It works in the same fashion as the NHL and NFL widgets work and offers many of the same options.

The main function shows the results and fixtures for the season which are sectioned off by round. You can select and traverse the rounds using the button and arrows on the bottom. Night games and day games are shown with different graphics and the ball is placed in front of the winner when the games have concluded. Scores are updated after the games and are not live.

Using the preference panel, selected from the menu when you right click on the widget, you can select your team, change the color of the widget, the color of the scrollbar, and choose your time zone. The three Australian time zones are available as well as GMT for the rest of the world.

You can show the fixture for your team (for the season) as well as show a list of stats. These include the team's record, goals for, goals against and percentage. Your chosen team's guernsey will appear in the dock along with their record which is updated each time you update the widget. (Done by clicking on the refresh arrow located on the bottom right hand corner of the widget.)

The ladder is included and is automatically updated as game results are updated. It shows team records, points and the cut-off line for the Finals.

And finally, for people who constantly look up these types of things (myself being one) you can show the Premiers for every AFL and VFL season. These you can show listed by year or by team.

This widget is essentially version 1.0 and has been tested on both a Mac and a PC and seems to be free of any real problems. It is for Version 4.0 of the Yahoo! Widget Engine and will not work on earlier versions. A Dashboard version will be made in the near future.

This widget is no longer available or being updated...

Please note that this widget is only for testing purposes and should not be distributed via anyother websites. It is not in anyway affiliated with the AFL and all information shown is stored on THIS site and not skimmed from others. This is not a final or public release. It is, and will be, free.
